Wounded for our transgressions

But he was wounded because of our transgressions. He was crushed because of our iniquities.The chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his stripes we were healed.

Matthew 27:26

A.R. Faussett writes,"-A bodily wound: not mere mental sorrow; mecholal, from chalal- literally pierced; minutely appropriate to Messiah, whose hands, feet and sides were pierced (Psalms 22:16)."

Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible states,"...But from the crown of the head, which was crowned with thorns, to the soles of his feet, which were nailed to the cross, nothing appeared but wounds and bruises."
